With the phenomenal increase in student enrollment in the 1970s, plans were made to establish additional campuses of the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore. As a result, the University College of Engineering was established in 1975 and operated in Sahiwal for three years. In 1978, it was moved to its permanent location in Taxila. The college continued to function under the administrative control of the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore till October 1993. During this month it received its charter as an independent university under the University of Engineering and Technology Taxila Ordinance 1993. And the number of postgraduate students is above 2000.

- Candidates must have 60% marks in FSc for all programs except for computer science where 50% marks are required.
- Candidates having FSc in Math, Physic and Chemistry are eligible for all programs. Candidates having FSc Pre Medical and Mathematics are eligible for computer science only.
